A gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/4 inches (3.18 cm) in width overall consisting of three light blue pillars surmounted by a black fireball emitting four scarlet flames in cross between four gold fleurs-de-lis, the pillars issuing from a crimson scroll inscribed MAINTENANCE OR CADENCE in gold letters, the ends curving upwards and terminating on the upper section of the pillars. The areas between the pillars and the pillars and the scroll are pierced.
Crimson and light blue are the colors used for Maintenance. The three pillars taken from the seal of the state of Georgia refer to their home station. Furthermore, the pillars are a symbol for support and upkeep and allude to the basic mission of the Battalion. The fireball and the four fleurs-de-lis refer the units four battle honors, France, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace and Central Europe earned as the 945th Field Artillery during World War II.
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 7 July 1970.
